Take Action: Milam & Burleson Counties’ Groundwater Hearing

The Vista Ridge project will pump immense amounts of groundwater from underneath Milam and Burleson Counties, to ship down to San Antonio. This project will promote unsustainable development, impose major rate hikes on San Antonio water customers, leave rural landowners with dry wells, and permanently harm the water resources of our community and our state.

If it wasn’t bad enough already, now Vista Ridge wants to pump even more water! It’s applied for a permit amendment to increase the amount it can pump from the Simsboro aquifer. The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) has scheduled a hearing before its Board on October 3.

If you live in Milam or Burleson County, please make plans to attend the October 3rd hearing! If you have a registered well, you may be able to be recognized as an “affected person” and seek a contested case hearing. You must file papers to contest the permit amendment application no later than SEPTEMBER 26. Email Judith@FarmAndRanchFreedom.org if you want more details on that option.

Whether you want to seek a contested case hearing or not, it still helps to attend the Board hearing on October 3 and speak as a member of the public in these counties.

This could be one of the best opportunities left to fight this project before they start pumping and irreparably injure our aquifers!

WHERE: POSGCD Office, 310 East Avenue C, Milano, TX 76556

WHEN: Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 5:30 pm

WHAT: Show the POSGCD Board that the community is concerned about even more pumping from the aquifer. If you are interested in trying to contest the permit application, either come to the preparatory meeting this Saturday (see next) or contact Judith@FarmAndRanchFreedom.org. You must file papers with the District by September 26 in order to seek a contested case hearing.
