A bill introduced by Senator Durbin grants the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) power to arbitrarily ban supplements that have been safely used for many years. At the same time, the FDA has drafted regulatory guidelines that would cripple supplement innovation by twisting the existing notification system for supplements into a de facto pre-approval system. This would jeopardize the sale of any supplement marketed since 1994, even if they have a perfectly safe track record, and make it increasingly difficult for new supplements to be developed.
