Cover Crops for Soil Health Workshop in Nixon, Texas


Join the Council for Healthy Food Systems for a FREE workshop devoted to increasing soil health and using forage analysis to benefit grazing animals.

Date: Saturday, October 8, 2022

Time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (lunch will be provided, see note below)

Where: Mesquite Field Farms, located at 501 S Oak Ave, Nixon, TX 78140

Workshop Details: Participants will learn the process and benefits of conducting a soil and forage analysis, how to utilize soil and forage data to make decisions regarding cover crop selection, and how to determine the economic impacts of these decisions.

The following topics will be discussed:

1. Improve Soil Health

    • Increase organic matter
    • Increase water hold capacity
    • Increase forage diversity
    • Biomass planting
    • Nutrient management

2. Provide wildlife habitat

3. Improve environmental and economic performance of working lands
